life would seem very primitive & come to a virtual standstill without electricity…after roti, kapada aur makan it comes next to bijli, sadak aur pani….unfortunately the more mankind progress the more he destroys….from the least polluting bicycle he moves on to a polluting motorcycle, to an even more polluting car, then come the worst polluters in the form of aeroplane & helicopter…Here I am trying to make a correction by targeting both the burning of coal for home electricity and petrol / diesel for transport…

In case you would like to power your home with clean solar energy we can help by doing the complete design & installation. The solar panels can be built for a life of 45 years. The system includes –

2500 W Solar Panels – They will generate electricity using sunlight….have a life between 25-35 years….need no maintenance except general cleaning and keep working automatically giving you free and clean electricity…2 KW solar panels in some 6 hours of sunshine can generate some 12 KWH of clean electricity which becomes 360 KWH / month of electricity worth 360 x 5 = Rs 1,800 worth of electric bill per month assuming a unit of electricity costs Rs 5…2000 W Grid Tie Inverter – They will send electricity generated by solar panels into the home first and whatever excess energy is available will be fed back into the grid lines….so assuming you use 100 KWh / month and the solar panels on your roof manage to generate 80 KWh / month then you will be paying for only 20 KWh of your net usage….in fact if you use lesser amount of electricity than what you consume then your electricity board will be paying you for the excess electricity you supply to the grid making this solar power plant a source of your income…also grid tie inverters are MPPT enabled and make solar panels work at their peak efficiency…Battery powered electric car – This car will come with a 8 KWh battery bank capable of taking 2 people for around 80 kms….Charging the batteries could be done with either with solar panels during the day or using grid electricity at night….so you will not have to stand in the line at a petrol pump or worry about the next increase in fuel prices…further you will not be polluting the air everyday in the morning for your ride to the office….the battery bank would cost Rs 50,000 and is expected to last 5 years assuming an average travel of 30 Kms daily…This car would also come with a 2 KW inverter to power the home at night when there is no sunlight available and grid electricity has failed serving as a portable generator…for the longer journeys you can attach a battery bank trailer behind extending the range of the car by hundred’s of kms…also this car will not burn money by regular visits to the petrol pump and will have very little maintenance costs…Home loans are available at around 8% per annum and you could add Rs 5 lakh to your home purchase cost to allow financing for the solar energy plant…further depreciation benefits could be used to save on income tax….carbon credit trading at Rs 1 / unit could give an additional income of 360 KWh / month x 12 months x Rs 1 = Rs 4,320/….a 2 KW system in its 35 year life time is equivalent to planting 290 trees….it can prevent release of approx 4000 Kgs of carbon dioxide and use of 10,000 liters of water per year at a power plant…

GROWTH 

Suppose you take a 5 year loan of Rs 5 lakh @12% for this purchase with a monthly EMI of Rs 11,000…..the car has been designed for 30 Kms / day travel in which it saves around 3 liters of petrol costing Rs 150 / day….so in a month it saves you Rs 4,500 on fuel costs….only around 5 KWh of electricity will be needed for the car’s 30 Kms while your solar panels can generate 12 KWh..so 7 KWh x 5 = Rs 35 / day of free electricity which in month saves you Rs 1050.00 on your electricity bill…I am not an expert on taxes but as far as I know you can take a 20% depreciation benefit in on your car purchase in the first year, 15% for the next year and 10% for the third year….since this is basically a car costing Rs 5 lakhs ( solar panels are used to power the car) and you can claim a 20% depreciation amounting to Rs 1 lakh for the first year ….if your income is between Rs 1.6 lakhs – Rs 5 lakhs then you can save around 10% of the Rs 1 lakh depreciation amount which is Rs 10,000 in income tax in the first year or Rs 833.33 per month….the market for carbon credit trading is not very developed but it can fetch an additional bonus of Rs 4,320 / year or Rs 360 / month…so this comes close to Rs 4,500 + Rs 1050 + Rs 833 + Rs 360 = Rs 6,743 which takes care of 60% of the EMI amount…only Rs 4,257 will need to be managed every month…

Employing solar energy based systems is important because India as on date produces only 1,20,000 MW of electricity which is a full 1,00,000 MW short of supply. 70% of the current energy needs are met from coal fired plants. A 500 MW coal fired plant burns approx. 4,00,000 kgs of coal in 1 hour needing 3-5 train loads of coal everyday. India is likely to import 60-100 million tonnes of this coal annually costing around Rs 60,000 crocre. Also crude oil is the single highest import bill for India. In 2007-2008 India imported 121.67 million tons of crude worth Rs 2,72, 699 crocre (US $ 68 billion). Around 20 lakh people die in India due to pollution related diseases like lung cancer, BP, asthma. Though this is a small number because India’s population grows by 2 crore every year, but the cost of treating pollution related diseases is estimated at Rs 10,000 crore.
