Village Electricity Problem
Can we imagine life without electricity? In today’s day and age of TV set, mobile phones and other gadgets, it seems impossible. But many people in rural India have not ever seen an electric bulb, leave alone gained from the many other uses that we in the cities are blessed to enjoy everyday.
In many Indian villages, life comes to a wall structure as soon as the sun sets – food has to cooked before it gets dark and children have to finish their studies. The alternative is the dim light of kerosene lamps, and the oil for these lights is not affordable for the poor. Farms without electricity cannot use tube wells and bore wells to irrigate their fields, people are not able to charge their phones to call family and friends, there are no fan or cooler to cool homes in the summer heat, and, of course, no TV set that brings in information of the outside world.
